FAQs
If you are new to chiropractic, you may have a few questions before you get started. Here are some of the more frequently asked questions to help you navigate our practice and what to expect from chiropractic treatment.
This is definitely up to the patient. At Northern Nevada Chiropractic, we have some patients that seek wellness care, which helps maintain and prevent altered joint mechanics. Some of our patients seek our care purely for pain relief. The doctors at Northern Nevada Chiropractic will offer treatment plans that are in the patient’s best interest. We realize that at the end of the day, the patient is responsible for their health care decisions.
We believe that we offer more choices here at Northern Nevada Chiropractic. We have four doctors who offer uniquely different treatment styles. There is no one approach that is best for all patients; we will try to match you with the doctor who fits your needs the best. We also continually increase our scope of care. For example, Dr. Nelson has her pediatric diplomat, and Dr. Welch is furthering his studies with a clinical nutrition diplomat.
We are preferred providers and in good standing with all of the major insurance carriers. Every insurance provides different coverage, so please call your insurance carrier to see what your plans benefits entail.
The majority of our patients experience immediate relief following their adjustment. If a patient is very acute and has muscle spasms, relieving the spine of the spasms could elicit some soreness. We take every effort to minimize any discomfort a patient experiences by using complementary modalities.
Every complaint is unique, along with the patient’s with accompanying ailments. Typically, most patients who come in our office will finish there care after two to four weeks. The doctors will run periodic re-exams to determine progress of care, and refer out as needed.
The short answer is we don’t know. A gall bladder issue can mask as shoulder pain. Chiropractors are musculoskeletal specialists, but are also able to diagnose when something is out of their scope. We do work closely with traditional medicine, referring when required. It is our opinion that a patient looking for a healthy lifestyle try a conservative therapy first, which we believe we excel at at Northern Nevada Chiropractic.
In most cases, we are considered portal of entry physicians, meaning no referral is needed. Some insurances are now requiring referrals to a chiropractor from a primary care physician. Please check with your insurance to see if this is a requirement of your provider. In either case, we are happy to send our records (notes, imaging) to your primary care physician to help coordinate care.
Chiropractic care is helpful to anyone with a spine. On most days, you will see infants to elderly receiving treatment in our offices. Each patients’ needs will be different, so the treatments will be as well. Chiropractic is good for all patients because chiropractic care centers on the spine. Different techniques are used for children and the elderly due to their spine’s delicate nature. Children need chiropractic care so they do not develop the problems we see in most adults, like nerve compression and osteoarthritis. It is especially important to have children checked by the doctor after they have had a fall. Chiropractic care can help the elderly from developing more serious complications from their longstanding spinal and nerve related conditions. Our doctors at NNC have treated newborn babies to patients 95 years old. Many parents elect their entire family to benefit from chiropractic care, so at Northern Nevada Chiropractic we offer special family rates.
We offer reduced rates for children, students, and veterans. Note that these rates are only offered when not using insurance, and can not be employed with Medicare. Call our office for specific rates and more information.
Our normal hours are 8am-6pm Monday thru Friday. We are also open most Saturdays by appointment.
